Quick Note:
The campfire ban has been lifted!
We will be able to take part in the traditional campfire activities! I understand we have some songs in the works, and the dens will be working on skits.
A working activity agenda has been put into the Cub Board.
We are on track for a great time!
9/26/2007:
Here is the latest email. It is very informative and complete. (I've edited a few items so that it makes sense in the context of the web page.)
Are we ready to go camping??????
1. Please review the web site for St. Joseph State park to ensure you are not confused by other state parks that are in close proximity. I recommend you print out directions from Rand McNally or MapQuest and keep them with you. The Google Map and diagrams of the camp sites are below.
http://www.floridastateparks.org/stjoseph/
2. Gate Code for Late Arrivals - the state park will not provide me the gate code until 7:30am Friday morning. I will obtain the code and forward to all early Friday morning. Please try and read your email for the gate code on Friday, for those who cannot get to your email and who will be late arriving, please call me on Friday [on the cell phone], but please try read your email first, since some cell phone coverage at this park is not the greatest and I may not have coverage to receive your call.
3. Craig Zody and I, are going down early to setup base camp, the cooking equipment. I am also pulling the cooking equipment trailer for John Smith. I will try and leave camp site assignments at the Front Gate, if you come before it closes, but if you come later, use the code, come into the park, and go toward our pack sites, 101,102,103,106,109,110,111,112. Please see Craig or I for campsite assignments when you arrive. I am trying to arrange as requested, but given, we need to see the sites first, we probably cannot assign till Friday afternoon. When you enter the park, tell them you are camping on one of the sites confirmed by Douglas Holleman, since all of the pack sites are under my names, again our sites are 101,102,103,106,109,110,111,112.
4. Food - The pack will provide the basic meals as follows
Friday Night Dinner - Sloppy Joes, chips, fruit, lemonade
Saturday Morning Breakfast - Pancakes, Bacon, juice, coffee, lemonade
Saturday Lunch - sandwiches, chips, lemonade
Saturday Dinner - Pork Tenderloin, Yellow Rice, Black Beans, Salad (Jill Merryday), lemonade
Sunday Morning Breakfast - sausage on bun, poptarts, juice, coffee, lemonade
Menu may change depending on our shopping successes on Thursday.
If anyone has a big coffee pot that can be used, please bring. John has one, but if like other trips we will go thru the coffee fast, especially for us adults just waking up.
Reminder, parents, please bring plenty of water and snacks to fill in the gaps for yourself and your hungry scouts. We need to ensure everyone stays hydrated given it may be a little warm.
5. You may have already received a list of the familes who are camping this weekend. Please review the list and information and if you have any updates, please send those to myself and Jane Zody. [I have not listed the names on the website.-Webmaster] All of you should have the camping list, "What to bring list" - the link is above. Not to forget items - hats, sunscreen, bug sprays, toilet paper, water, flashlights, batteries, any medicines, etc.
6. Craig Zody and I will be at the Wed Night dinner at Saint Pauls UMC tonight around 5:30pm tonight, if any of you have your final registrations, fees, medical forms, certifications, etc please drop them off to us then, if you plan on camping this weekend. Per BSA policy, we must have all the paperwork from all those who plan to go camping this weekend.
7. Buddy System - reminder, we will be utilizing the "Buddy System" this weekend on our camping trip. Den Leaders please ensure you work with your parents and scouts and assign a buddy to each scout. Parents and Leaders, if you see a scout without a buddy, ask "where is your buddy". Cape San Blas, is a large state park, and we do not want to have to go looking for a scout in this large park, especially at night. It is the responsibility of us all to keep our scouts safe.
8. Swimming - BSA policy and our current Tour Permit for this weekend, do not allow for a pack swimming activity. Therefore, there is no swimming planned for our camping trip. Per BSA policy, if swimming is planned, additional training is required, which we currently do not have enough leaders trained, but we will work on this. In the meantime, if you and your family want to go swimming, that is fine, but it will have to be a family activity and not a pack activity. Reminder, no swimming does not prevent us from building sandcastles, flying kites, fishing, collecting sea shells, scavenger hunts, etc. I will point out as a reminder, a Tallahassee adult recently drowned at St. George Island due to "Rip Tide". Lets make sure we all keep our eyes on our scouts and adults, stick to the "Buddy System", and be safe.
I know this is a lot, but I am trying to cover all bases. Please get your paperwork/fees in today, if you have not already. We must have these for any family going camping per BSA policy.
Thanks and I look forward to our trip, we have had a great turn out so far, and it is a great way to start out our scouting year.

PLEASE READ - ACTION REQUIRED
Our first camping trip is fast approaching, St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park, Cape San Blas. If you can attend, I highly recommend you consider attending. This is a great park with beach and bay access. We normally have great time and most scouts like nothing better than sleeping in a tent, eating smores, and experiencing the outdoors.
Currently, the pack has 4 campsites reserved for September 28, 29, with a max of 8 people per site, max of two cars per site, max of two tents per site. Therefore, as of right now, we have a max capacity for the 4 sites, of 32 people. We will arrive on Friday September 28 and leave on Sunday, September 30, 2007.
In order to plan, we need to get a preliminary count of who plans to attend. We will follow up later with an additional email, but for now, I need a basic headcount to ensure we have enough camp sites.
Please respond back (i.e Douglas Holleman and Jane Zody) by Close of Business (COB) Friday, September 14, 2007, with the following
1. Will you and your scout be camping with the pack - Yes or No
2. Number of people in your family who will be camping including your scout
3. What day and time you plan to arrive and leave the park
Right now, the plans are for some of us to get an early start, and set up the basics with the rest following. Each family will need to coordinate transportation, since for this trip, we do not have any plans to utilize the Saint Paul's church bus, nor is it scheduled. There will most likely be some caravanning as has been done before, we will share cell numbers for coordinating between vehicles and generally to check up on each other.
Details on what to bring will follow later, and also is included in your information pack from our first pack meeting. If you do not have your packet, please contact Jane Zody.
One final reminder, all scouts and their families MUST
1. Have their registration, dues, medical forms turned in to participate in the camping trip by next pack meeting, no exceptions. This is a council requirement.
2. Parents/Guardians must attend the camping trip with their scout, if their scout is to go on the trip. There are some exceptions for the older scouts, but for the majority of our pack, the council does not allow. If you have a questions regarding this requirement, please contact one of the leaders.
3. Parents and leaders will need to complete the Youth Protection Training. Directions from Crill will be coming soon via email.
I think that is enough for now, but please again, in order for us to properly plan, please respond to above and let me know if you plan to go on this camping trip by Close of Business (COB) Friday, September 14, 2007.
Thanks again, for being part of our pack.

PS
If anyone has ideas about what we can do while there, please share with the leaders. There are many things to consider, scavenger hunt on the beach, kites, fishing, etc. We will most likely do some garbage collection on the beach as our service project while there.

Here are two diagrams of the campsites.
Please note the orientation. In these diagrams, north is NOT up.
